My name is Adele Frizzell, and I am a published author and respected authority on fitness and nutrition. I’m also an ACE-certified Health Coach with a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology.
I help women get strong and lean and to stop fearing food by teaching them about nutrition.
I empower women to become healthy, fit, and unstoppable!
There’s nothing more exciting to me than helping people transform their lives for the better. To help them turn “impossible” into reality.
You see, I wasn’t born with a fast metabolism or awesome genetics. In fact, I’ve had quite a health journey. I was a real go-getter in life, a woman who could accomplish anything she put her mind to. Whether it was starting an adventure racing company and becoming the only female race director in Canada, writing books, traveling the world solo, or learning how to ride a motorcycle — I’m a doer, not a dreamer.
But my fierce insides never matched my outsides. I have an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, which means my immune system is weaker than most, and I have to manage my energy so I don’t “crash”. It also means I have a slower metabolism and a tendency to easily gain weight. My inner amazon has always been at odds with the body she’s been given.
Ever since I was a teenager, my weight was something I couldn’t seem to control. Losing weight and keeping it off seemed “impossible”, I would expand and contract like an accordion, up and down 20-30 pounds. I ate healthily and I was physically active, but I had a strong hunger drive that never really seemed to turn off (I would later discover why this was).
Once I reached my forties, losing weight became even more difficult: hypothyroid and going through menopause, I struggled to lose just 10 pounds. I took up powerlifting and added some muscle to my 5’6″ frame, but my body fat remained high. Benchpressing was something I excelled at, so I competed in various local, national and international competitions. But because I was overweight, I often struggled to make my weight class.
I am so glad to have put that all behind me now. Not the lifting, which I still do, but the struggle to lose weight and keep it off.
It took years of talking to doctors and advocating for my health, as well as personal research, and experimentation to get me where I am now: 25 pounds lighter, with more muscle than I’ve ever had.
I’ve also paid thousands of dollars to gain the knowledge I have: I’ve been a client of some of the best fitness and diet coaches in the industry, and I’ve worked with a nutritionist, a leading registered dietician, and a well-respected hormone specialist. I’ve learned something from each of them. I believe the lessons I’ve learned along the way give me an edge and make me a better coach.
I share this story with you because I want you to know that just because you are struggling, and feel like you’ve tried everything, it doesn’t mean you are broken and beyond repair! I had tried it all: clean eating, gluten-free, vegetarianism, organic, dairy-free, sugar-free, low-carb, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, the cabbage soup diet, the lemonade diet and more! Every failure brought me closer to success and the realization that:
- Diets may get you to a certain point, but it’s habits that will keep you there.
- If you have hormonal imbalances or food sensitivities, weight loss is more complicated than calories in and calories out.
- Healthy eating doesn’t have to mean organic and exotic, expensive foods.
- Everyone has an inner athlete – you just need to find the right activity.
You don’t have to accept that this is the body you will be stuck in for the rest of your life. If you want to change it, you can. Like me, you just need to find the right combination of nutrition, activity, and habits for YOUR body (and possibly hormone therapy or medication) to unlock your potential.
My job as a coach is to educate and empower my female clients. As a published self-help author and health coach, I know a few things about maximizing human potential. If you feel like you could use my help, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
